Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center - Data Breach Class Action Settlement

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center has agreed to an $11.5 million class action settlement to resolve claims arising from a data breach that occurred between November 10 and November 25, 2023. The breach compromised the personal and medical information of over 2.1 million individuals, including names, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, health insurance details, and medical histories. 


Summary of Events:


On December 5, 2023, Dameron Hospital experienced a cyberattack attributed to the hacker group RansomHouse. The attackers reportedly accessed over 480 gigabytes of data, including names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, medical records, and health insurance information. ​


Settlement Details:


Individuals residing in the United States whose private information was potentially compromised in the data breach and who received notification from Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center or its authorized representative are eligible to participate in the settlement. 


Eligible class members may receive:

  • Reimbursement for Out-of-Pocket Losses: Up to $5,000 for documented expenses related to fraud, identity theft, or credit monitoring services.​

  • Pro Rata Cash Payment: An estimated payment of up to $599, depending on the number of valid claims submitted.​

  • Medical Identity Theft Protection: Two years of medical identity theft monitoring services.​
